Dr. Tate was licensed to ministry in 1990 and began providing care, counseling, and consulting services to the Christian community. Those services have been provided in 27 states, 7 countries. 8 graduate institutions, over 50 associations, and more than 200 local churches. Dr. Tate has conducted over 32,000 hours of counseling with individuals, couples, and families.He specializes in marriages that are in crisis.
Tate Cockrell, Ph.D, MAMFT, MA
Dr. Tate Cockrell was raised in Aberdeen, Scotland and Laurel, MS. He graduated from William Carey University with a B.S. in Psychology minoring in Biblical Studies. He went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned an M.A. in Religious Education, an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a Ph.D. in Psychology and Counseling.
Dr. Tate currently serves as Director of DMin & EdD Studies, Professor of Counseling, and the Fulp Chair of Biblical Counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Previously, he was the Counseling Minister at Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville, NC; Associate Pastor of Counseling over Recovery Group Ministries at The Summit Church in NC, where he helped to launch G4 Support & Recovery Groups.
Prior to moving to North Carolina, he served as Pastor for Member Care at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham Alabama. Prior to serving at Brook Hills he was Family Pastor and Director of the Center for Hope & Healing at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, MS. He also served as Director of Ministries for Dawson McAllister Association, a national youth ministry, where he co-hosted Dawson McAllister Live, a nationally syndicated live radio program reaching 500,000 people each week.
He travels throughout the United States and internationally speaking in conferences on marriage, family, grief, parenting, divorce, recovery, and men’s issues.
He has been married to Wendy Posey of Ellisville, MS since 1993. They have one married daughter, Tatum (1994), and twin sons, Preston and Spencer (2002).
Wendy Cockrell, Event Coordinator
Without a doubt, Wendy Cockrell has been a driving force behind the success of Tate's ministry. Her giftedness in the area of hospitality and event planning has provided immeasureable benefits to the ministry. She manages all contracts, travel, publicity, and other event details.
Wendy has a lengthy business history having worked for the North American Mission Board Media Broadcast Center as an Administrative Assistant in marketing and product fulfillment. She spent many years as an office manager and bookkeeper for multiple companies including a landscape managment firm and an investment firm.
Most recently, Wendy was the event coordinator for Pinnacle Trust, one of Mississippi's premiere investment firms. She was responsible for the important role of planning all investment relation events.
Along with her role in the ministry, she spends the bulk of her time managing the day to day operations of their family. Her servant heart and welcoming personality endears her to everyone that meets her. She serves as the social arm of their ministry,. Tate loves for them to travel together as her extroversion helps balance his quiet extroversion.
